Jacob Ogden Smith's recent work explores the operation and location of pottery practice within mainstream society. It seeks to do so in a way that is reflective of ceramics' historical role and the manner in which it is now depicted and viewed within popular culture. A specific focus is placed on its representation within contemporary mediums, exploring ceramic 'cameos' in film, television and internet culture and reenacting narratives of creation, use and mythology. Exhibitions include Pottery Practice Project (solo) (2012, Craft Victoria, VIC) Hatched National Graduate Exhibition (2011, Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts, WA), Human Roll (2009, China Heights Gallery, NSW), HOW WORKS (solo, 2009, Perth Town Hall, WA), Young Guns (2009, Sydney Collage of the Arts Gallery, NSW), Boom (2009, Spectrum Project Space, WA).
